Desolate and Foggy by Patrick van Raalten

To confront a person with his shadow is to show him his own light.

Carl Gustav Jung

When we replace the word person with the word world, we translate the individual level to the collective level.

Yes, I think COVID-19 has been a collective shadow experience for mankind these last years. We all know that COVID-19 brought a lot of suffering, anxiety, uncertainty and chaos. Not to mention grief and loss of friends and loved ones.

But that doesn’t mean that that is all there is to this virus. It frooze our lives in midair, while we were running around in our hectic lives. Somehow we thought and hoped that it wouldn’t hit us and that it would stay away and abroad. But it didn’t. It ran our doors down and has a profound effect on us until this day.

Whenever we are in shadow and darkness we tend to get scared, because we can’t see and understand what is happening. But we can also learn to trust what is happening. To relax and breathe through this narrow and dark passage we are traveling through as mankind.

COVID-19 brought life as we knew it to a standstill. We couldn’t escape ourselves anymore and we shouldn’t. For too long a time we tried to not look at all the difficult and painful things we created in this world.

Now that COVID-19 has altered all our lives we have a great opportunity to reinvent ourselves and our world. To radically dream a new world into existence. A world where the light gets in.
